Impressions of the conference «Law meets Film»

The Law Meets Film event wasn’t just a conference about the intersection of law and cinema—it was an interdisciplinary exchange. Law professors, film critics, sociologists, and even a film director came together and collaborated to deliver a precise and profound discussion on the significant role that cinema can play in countering the drift of our world, where the rule of law seems increasingly under threat. This collaboration showcased true intellectual freedom.

Participants also contributed by sharing ideas and questions, enriching the discussions. As a student myself, I found it incredibly enriching to talk with peers from other countries and academic fields. It’s experiences like these that, in just one day, allow us to exchange ideas, broaden our perspectives, and connect in ways that feel truly meaningful—all under the beautiful sky of Turin. In conclusion, a famous quote, adapted by W. Stoffel, one of the speakers and organizers, perfectly sums up the day: « if non-legal cinema shows us anything, it’s that law is everywhere » (the original sentence coined by Ross D. Levi, Celluloid Courtroom, 2005, was “if legal cinema shows us…”).
