Travelling to Fribourg
Transports
If you travel by plane, we recommend flying to Zurich Airport (ZRH) or Geneva Airport (GVA). There are direct train connections to Fribourg from both airports (c. 80-100 min). If you travel via Geneva, make sure that you don’t miss the beautiful view on Lake Geneva and the surrounding vineyards as you travel through the Lavaux region, a Unesco World Heritage Site!
Train reservations are usually not necessary in Switzerland, and tickets for your chosen trip are usually valid all-day, unless you buy a so-called “supersaver ticket,” which may occasionally be available for specific connections. Tickets can be bought at train stations, but we also recommend downloading the SBB mobile app, which provides easy access to regularly updated train and bus schedules and allows you to buy train and bus tickets for all public traffic services within Switzerland. You can also use the SBB website for this.
Fribourg itself is for the most part a walkable city, but there are also regular bus services within the city and to neighbouring towns offered by Transports Publics Fribourgeois (TPF). Tickets can be bought at most bus stops or through the SBB mobile app.
Accomodation
We can recommend the following hotels, (almost) all of which are within walking distance (between 5-15 min) of the conference site:
- Hôtel du Faucon ****
- Hôtel de la Rose ****
- Hôtel Alpha ***
- Hôtel Ibis Fribourg ** (in Granges-Paccot, c. 15 min from the city centre by bus)
- Domaine Notre-Dame de la Route (in Villars-sur-Glâne, c. 15 min from the city centre by bus)
