The European Free Trade Association (EFTA) is the intergovernmental organisation of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. It was set up in 1960 by its then seven Member States for the promotion of free trade and economic integration between its members and the benefit of their trading partners around the globe. The EFTA countries jointly negotiate free trade agreements and enjoy access to one of the world’s largest networks of preferential trade relations, covering 80% of EFTA’s merchandise trade.

Dr. Henri Gétaz will speak about World trade in state of ubheavel and will take a European perspective. World trade is in a state of transformation: the post-world war II order, characterized by global liberalism based on agreed rules is shifting towards competing circles of power and conflicting norms. Dr. Gétaz will discuss how this shift is unfolding, against the background of the pandemic and Ukraine crises, and how this affects Europe and more specifically EFTA Countries, including Switzerland.
