Concept

The MIC symposium is a series of annual meetings organized by the Microscopy Imaging Center, an interdisciplinary, inter-universitary center located at the University of Bern. Each year, the MIC committee decides on a special topic for the MIC Symposium and forms a scientific committee. Experts of the chosen topic are invited as speakers and industry with scientific oriented portfolio is invited, too. The MIC Symposium attracts attendees from all over Switzerland and abroad.

MIC 2024

2024 events goes under the title "Bio-inspired materials and bio-engineering".
Live imaging of dynamics cell behaviour in living organisms not only visualises biological processes in situ, but also incites entire new research venues. The speakers in the “Imaging in Life Science and Biomedicine” session exploit the combination of cutting-edge model systems, high-resolution imaging, optogenetics, and data processing pipelines for application to diverse fields such as cardiovascular research, neuronal circuits in invertebrates and preclinical rodent models, as well as immunology.
The second session is devoted to the utilisation of microscopy concepts at the nexus between biological and material sciences. The judicious application of established imaging techniques, or even the development of existing techniques, can yield profound new insights into the functioning of nature, encompassing the concept of colour, chemical bonds, and the capture of single molecules.
The advent of super-resolution light microscopy techniques has provided unprecedented molecular and mechanistic insights into living matter. In the “Imaging at Nanoscale” session, speakers will delve into optical methods and imaging techniques that allow for the examination of materials and cells at the resolution of individual molecules. Presentations will include topics such as DNA nanotechnology, innovative protein labeling for single molecule imaging, live cell biosensors, and polarized fluorescence microscopy.
